THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team started its trip out west, on Friday night, with a win over Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College, in four sets.

First Set:
- MC used a .291 hitting percentage and 19 kills to pull away with the first set.
- The Choctaws used a 7-2 run to defeat VSU in the first set.
- VSU hit .250 in the first set, dooming the Blazers.
Second Set:
- The Blazers struggled in the second set but were able to string multiple runs together to pull away from the Choctaws.
- Seven errors hurt the Choctaws, as VSU started to pull away.
- VSU finished off the Choctaws in the second set with a .231 hitting percentage.

Third Set:
- MC jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead.
- VSU used a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 lead.
- Both teams used runs, before the Blazers pulled away to take the third set, 25-21
Fourth Set:
- The Blazers used another quick start to take the momentum early in the fourth set.
- MC rallied multiple times, but six errors hurt the Choctaws.
- VSU finished off MC with 13 kills.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Blazers finished with 50 kills and a .188 hitting percentage
- Senior Kayla Widera tallied 12 kills and three blocks and one assist.
- Junior Rebecca Sills totaled 20 digs and five assists.
- Junior Tammy Reyes Perez totaled 39 assists and two aces.
