THE BASICS:

THE LEAD: For the third consecutive match, the Valdosta State volleyball team swept its opponent as the Blazers opened the Converse Tournament with a 3-0 win over the host Valkyries Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Blazers used a 4-0 run for a 20-16 lead on a pair of miscues by Converse and kills from senior Chloe' Chubilleau.
- Converse regained the lead at 23-21, but the Blazers dug deep as Chubilleau came up big once again with a pair of kills and two errors from Converse sealed the win in the first set for VSU.
- The Blazers opened the second set, scoring 13 of the first 17 points, including a 9-2 run for a 13-4 lead.
- The Valkyries made the set interesting late, but VSU won 25-19.
- In the third set, the Blazers scored six of the first eight points and 12 of the first 18, but Converse used another late run pulling within 19-15.
- VSU sealed the win as it rattled of the final six points for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- VSU hit .267 for the match, marking the second-best percentage of the season, while holding Converse to .064.
- The Blazers had 49 kills, marking the most in a three-set match this season and second-most this season overall, in 120 swings with 17 errors.
- VSU hit over .300 in the final two sets after opening at .152, while Converse hit .081 in the first set, .114 in the second and .000 in the third.
- Chubilleau had a match-high 15 kills, while freshman Jessie Mooney added 12 kills.
- Sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez had 41 assists and junior Dariah Powell added a match-high 20 digs and freshman Auroa Nero added 18 digs.
- Junior Kayla Widera had three blocks in the match as both VSU and Converse each had five rejections.
- The win marked VSU's third-straight sweep and a season-best third-straight victory.

- The Blazers battle Limestone at 4:30 p.m. to conclude the first day of the tournament and will play North Greenville at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by Mars Hill at 12:30 p.m.
