MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Valdosta State men's tennis team saw their season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion on Monday in Miami Shores, Fla., as the No. 8 West Florida Argonauts edged out a 5-4 victory over the Blazers in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Axel Holm and
Davis Stewart fell 8-4 to Nicolas Lecoutre and Juan Cabrera at No. 3 doubles, No. 20
Jordi Mas and Florian Simbozel teamed up to even the score with an 8-6 win over No. 12 Serdar Bojadjiev and Lucas Sanchez at No. 1.
Valdosta State proceeded to take the lead with an 8-6 win at No. 2 for
Fernando Rivas and Francisco Yim Kim over Nicholas Springer and Alfonso Castellano, which put VSU in front 2-1 heading into singles play.
Singles action resulted in a thrilling series of matches, beginning with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 win for Rivas over Sanchez at No. 3. Cabrera fired back for the Argonauts at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Yim Kim, before
Xavier Pineda took down Robin Rafaitin, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 5.
With their backs against the wall, the Argonauts reeled off three straight wins for Juan Motta over Stewart at No. 6, Lecoutre over Mas at No. 1, and Bojadjiev over Simbozel at No. 2.
The narrow loss ended Valdosta State's season at 18-4 overall.
