VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State men's tennis team stayed red hot on Tuesday with a 5-0 Gulf South Conference win over the Shorter Hawks at the VSU Tennis Courts.
The No. 9 ranked Blazers rolled through doubles action with wins at all three courts. Valdosta State's success began with VSU's No. 9 ranked tandem of
Jordi Mas and Florian Simbozel at No. 1, who teamed up to smoke Jose Moreno-Manzano and Talha Zubair, 8-1.
At court No. 2,
Fernando Rivas and Francisco Yim Kim cruised to an 8-4 win over Malik Yawar and Gregoire Vincent, and
Axel Holm joined
Davis Stewart for a convincing 8-1 win over Caleb Diller and Mason Barnette at No. 3.
The Blazers needed just two points in singles play, and Valdosta State's No. 5 and No. 6 players were there to answer the call. At No. 5,
Xavier Pineda made short work of Diller with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Stewart blew by Barnette, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 to put the exclamation point on the match.
With the win, Valdosta State improved to 13-3 overall and improved to 10-1 in conference play. The Hawks, meanwhile, fell to 3-12 overall and fell to 0-9 against GSC opponents.
The Blazers will return to action on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. neutral match against Xavier University of Louisiana in Pensacola, Fla.
