VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State men's tennis team torched the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville in a convincing 7-2 Gulf South Conference win on Sunday afternoon in Valdosta, Ga.
The Blazers got off to a strong start at the VSU Tennis Courts with a sweep in doubles action for a 3-0 advantage.
Jordi Mas and Florian Simbozel, who currently represent the No. 19 tandem in Division II tennis, took down Dylan Hall and Timo Christen 8-2 at No. 1, before
Fernando Rivas joined Francisco Yim Kim at No. 2 for a 9-7 triumph over James Caddies and Noah Pring.
Axel Holm teamed up with
Xavier Pineda to finish off the strong start with an 8-5 win over Guilherme Coleta and K. Roskell-Thomas at No. 3.
In singles action, No. 17 ranked Mas toppled Christen with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1, before No. 18 ranked Simbozel followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elliott Hopson at No. 2.
Yim Kim and Holm picked up VSU's final two wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, with Yim Kim's 6-1, 6-1 win over Tim Nutz and Holm's comeback 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory.
Alabama-Huntsville's only two wins of the day came from Hall and Caddies at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. VSU's Rivas and
Davis Stewart suffered the losses.
