THE LEAD: The Valdosta State volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 win at Mississippi College Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Jessie Mooney had a team-high nine kills with 11 digs to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a very tightly contested first set, the Blazers broke a 21-21 as the Choctaws committed a pair of errors for a 23-21 lead.
- Mooney tallied a kill for a 24-23, and a miscue from MC gave VSU a 1-0 lead.
- The set saw 17 ties and six lead changes.
- In the second set, MC took an early 10-7 lead, but VSU battled back to tie the set at 13 on back-to-back errors by the Choctaws for a 5-0 run and a 15-13 lead.
- With the set tied at 16, VSU ended on a 9-1 run for a 25-17 win as senior Katie McInnis had an eight-serve run.
- In the third set, VSU took a 12-8 lead early, to see the Choctaws battled back for a 13-13 score.
- VSU then stretched the lead to 17-14 and 20-17 as MC tied the set at 22, but a kill from sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez and an ace from senior Chloe Chubilleau gave VSU match point.
- Reyes-Perez ended the match with a kill for a 25-23 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- For the match, VSU hit .314 with 41 kills in 102 swings. The Blazers had 60 digs with 36 aces.
- McInnis had 10 digs for the match, while junior Dariah Powell had a team-high 15 digs, while Reyes-Perez had 29 assists.
- MC hit .180 with 38 kills in 122 swings, along with 48 digs and 37 assists.
- Kendall Platt had nine kills to lead the Choctaws.
- The match saw a total of 32 ties and 15 lead changes.
