THE BASICS:
SCORE: Montevallo 3, Valdosta State 1 (25-16, 21-25, 13-25, 13-25)

LOCATION: Pensacola, Fla.
THE LEAD: The Valdosta State volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Montevallo in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament Friday. VSU won the first set 25-16, but Montevallo rallied for a 25-21 win in the second and won the final two sets each by the score of 25-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VSU rattled off four-straight points to take an 11-10 lead early in the first set, capped with a kill from senior Katie McInnis.
- The Falcons tied the set at 15, but the Blazers went on a 9-0 run for a 24-15 lead, and won the decisive point on a service error by the Falcons.
- The Blazers kept the momentum going early in the second set as they scored six of the first nine points and held a 13-9 lead, before UM tied the set at 13 with four-straight.
- VSU used another big kill from McInnis for a 20-17 lead, but Montevallo ended the set with a 8-1 run for a 25-21 win.
- The Falcons raced out to an 11-2 lead in the third set as the teams basically exchanged points from there on as UM won 25-13.
- UM kept the momentum into the fourth set as it scored eight of the first ten points.
- Back-to-back points from VSU pulled the Blazers within 15-10, but it would be as close as they'd get as UM used another big run (6-0) for a 21-10 lead and finished 25-13.
- Four seniors played their final match in a Blazer uniform, McInnis, along with Lindsey Robinson, Chloe' Chubilleau and Chelsea Chavers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- VSU hit a blistering .324 for the first set with 15 kills in 34 swings, but struggled the rest of the way with 10 kills in the second set and eight in each of the final two sets.
- Montevallo hit just .108 in the first, but hit a match-high .483 in the third and .385 in the fourth.
- Freshman Jessie Mooney had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Blazers, while Chubilleau had 10 kills and sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez had 35 assists.
- Montevallo had 12 kills from Brie Blume, leading three Falcons with double-digit kills.
- Blume recorded a double-double with 10 digs as Skyler Sieber had a team-high 14 digs, while Harley Masoner added 22 assists.
