THE LEAD: The Valdosta State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 19 West Florida in the final regular season home match of the season at The Complex Tuesday evening. Despite the loss, the Blazers fought tough and won the second set 25-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Blazers trailed 8-6 in the first set, before the Argonauts used a 5-1 run for a 13-7 lead, but VSU fought back for a 14-13 deficit on a kill from senior Katie McInnis.
- UWF scored six of the next seven points for a 20-14 lead and went on for a 25-16 win as the Argos ended the set with an 11-3 run.
- The second set was a back-and-forth affair as VSU held an early 4-2 lead, but UWF took a 10-7 lead on a kill from Makila York, but four-straight errors on the Argos tied the gave VSU an 11-10 lead.
- UWF tied the set at 11, but VSU quickly regained the lead with a kill from junior Kayla Wood.
- The Argos cut the deficit to 15-14, but three-straight serves from senior Chloe' Chubilleau stretched the lead to 18-15.
- VSU would keep the lead at two or three points the rest of the way and a kill from junior Kayla Widera sealed the win in the set at 25-22.
- It marked just the fourth lost set in conference play for the Argos since a 3-1 loss at Alabama Huntsville on Sept. 11.
- With the momentum heading into the third set, VSU played from behind early on, but tied the set at eight on an error by the Argos.
- Later, an attack error on the Argos pulled VSU within 16-15 and VSU tied the set for the eight time at 19 on a kill from Chubilleau.
- UWF regained the lead with a miscue by the Blazers on the next point and scored five-straight for a 24-19 lead.
- VSU fought back with a pair of kills from Widera, but an attack error ended the set at 25-21.
- In the fourth set, UWF raced out to a 9-0 lead and went on for a 25-9 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The match saw 19 ties and four lead changes as 16 of the 19 ties came in the second and third sets.
- VSU hit .061 for the match and .061 in the third set and -.161 in the fourth after hitting .250 in the second set. The Blazers had 43 kills in 164 swings.
- UWF hit .243 for the match with 53 kills in 140 swings.
- McInnis paced the team with 11 kills and recorded eight digs, while hitting .108. Sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez recorded 34 assists with five digs, while junior Dariah Powell led the team with 24 digs.
- Jordyn Poppen and Makenzie Christman each had 11 kills for the Argos.

- The Blazers close out the regular season at West Alabama and Mississippi College this weekend, before heading to the GSC Championship Nov. 9-12 in Pensacola, Fla., at league champion West Florida.
