Blazers Bounce Back With 3-0 Win Over Auburn-Montgomery

VALDOSTA, Ga. Valdosta State volleyball returned to form in a big way with an impressive 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19) Gulf South Conference win over the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks in front of 300-plus on Friday night at The Complex.

Following a pair of tight wins in the first two sets, the Blazers fell behind 8-2 to start the third frame. Following a timeout by Head Coach Mike Swan, however, the Blazers responded in a big way with a 10-4 run to close the gap to a one-point deficit.

The two teams traded points until they reached a 19-19 gridlock late in the third set. A side-out put VSU in front 20-19, and Chelsea Chavers served for five straight points and a game-winning ace to cap off the night.

With the win, Valdosta State held their winning record in check at 8-6 overall and lifted their conference record to 3-2. The Warhawks, on the other hand, fell to 7-8 overall and saw their GSC record fall to 1-4 on the year.

Individually for the Blazers, Chavers delivered one of her best performances of the season with six kills and a .192 hitting percentage. In addition, the junior racked up five service aces. Setter Sara Dandridge also displayed versatility, particularly late in the match, with a series of kills that lifted the junior to a total of five kills in ten attempts for a .400 hitting effort on the night.

Ashley Miller and Tristyn Sells each reached double-digit figures in the kill column, while Sydney Chick teamed up with Chavers for 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

Valdosta State will return to action next Friday on October 6th with a trip to Memphis, Tenn. for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Christian Brothers.
