Volleyball Falls to Christian Brothers on the Road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Valdosta State volleyball team took Christian Brothers the full distance in the final set of the match, but the Lady Bucs held on to walk away with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 27-24) win over VSU on Friday night in Memphis, Tenn.

The Blazers trailed for most of the opening set but kept the score close throughout. The Lady Bucs flipped a switch late in the frame, however, and turned a 19-16 advantage into a 1-0 match lead after outscoring VSU 6-1 to close out the set.

After falling in a tightly contested second set, the match came down to comeback attempt by the Blazers in the third. Valdosta State showed grit down the stretch, and with CBU holding match point and a 24-21 advantage, the Blazers scored three straight to overcome the deficit. VSU was only able to score one against Christian Brothers' three in the closing moments, however.

Tristyn Sells led the way offensively for the Blazers with 10 kills on 39 attempts, while Ashley Miller produced the most efficient offensive effort of the night with nine kills and just two errors on 18 attempts (.389).

Defensively, Sydney Chick, Sara Dandridge, and Chelsea Chavers all delivered double-digit figures in the dig column. In addition, Dandridge's 29 assists netted the junior a double-double on the night.

With the loss, the Blazers fell to 8-7 overall and saw their Gulf South Conference record even up at 3-3. The Lady Bucs improved to 4-3 in conference play and lifted their overall record to 9-10 with the victory.
