JACKSON, Tenn. – The Valdosta State volleyball team put together a thrilling road win in Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, as the Blazers took down the Lady Bulldogs 3-2 (16-25, 25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 16-14) in Jackson, Tenn.
Following a lopsided 25-16 loss in the opening set, the Lady Blazers flipped a switch and dominated the Lady Bulldogs with 25-18 and 25-17 wins, respectively, in the next two sets. Union recovered for a 25-20 fourth set victory and forced a fifth set, in which the Blazers outlasted the Lady Bulldogs for a nail-biting 16-14 win.
With the triumph, the Blazers improved to 9-7 overall and moved back above .500 in GSC play at 4-3. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 11-9 overall and 2-6 in GSC play.
Katie McInnis fueled Valdosta State offensively with a team-high 11 kills. The junior committed just four errors on 18 attempts for a .389 hitting percentage.
Sara Dandridge delivered another double-double effort with 14 digs and 32 assists, while
Sydney Chick complemented the offense with a team-high 23 digs on the defensive side.
Lindsey Robinson also added six block assists in the middle to lead the team 11 blocks overall.
Next up for the Blazers, it's a trip to the annual Regional Crossover Tournament with participants from both the GSC and the Sunshine State Conference. Matchups will be announced soon for the tournament, held in Birmingham, Ala.
