Blazer Volleyball Taken Down by Flagler, 3-0

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Blazer volleyball's woes continued on Tuesday night at The Complex, as Flagler handed Valdosta State a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) non-conference loss in Valdosta, Ga.

The Blazers fell to 7-6 overall with the loss, while the Saints improved to 6-3 on their season after the win.

Minus middle blocker Kayla Widera for the second straight match, Valdosta State slipped early while the Saints raced out to an 18-9 advantage. Sara Dandridge, Dariah Powell, and Tristyn Sells teamed up for three kills to help the Blazers score four out of the next five points and pull VSU to within six at 19-13. The run was short-lived, however, as Flagler finished off the opening set with a 6-4 advantage down the stretch.

The Blazers put up a fight during the final two frames, desperately trying to make adjustments and redirect Flagler's momentum. Valdosta State fell too far behind early in each of the last two sets, however, and were unable to recover from the deficits.

Taja Valmyr presented the biggest problem for the Blazer defense throughout the contest, as the outside hitter swung for a game-high 15 kills, while Sara Davis supported Valmyr's effort with 10 kills and no errors on 22 attempts.

Senior Tristyn Sells delivered a solid 11 kills on 28 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage, but the Blazer attack ended with Sells and left Valdosta State with a team hitting percentage of .119 on the night.

Valdosta State will have the opportunity to bounce back quickly, as Auburn-Montgomery comes to town on Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. Gulf South Conference matchup. Live coverage will be provided right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
