VALDOSTA, Ga. – Head Coach
Mike Swan's volleyball program stayed red hot on Saturday with their third consecutive win and second Gulf South Conference victory of the weekend, as the Blazers took down West Georgia 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-11) in conference action on Saturday afternoon at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
Valdosta State got off to a slow start against the Wolves and dropped the opening set, but the red and black came roaring back during the next three frames to outscore UWG 75-42.
Lindsey Robinson had a big day, as she blasted a season high 11 kills for a .348 hitting percentage. Her strong offensive effort went alongside her best blocking performance of the season, which included six blocks, three of which were solo denials.
Robinson was joined by
Katie McInnis and
Tristyn Sells, who also contributed with 11 kills each, and
Sydney Chick delivered another strong defensive outing with 24 digs in the contest. The mark for Chick represented her highest dig total of the season.
Overall, the Blazers hit .183 in the contest, a number which easily toppled West Georgia's .021 team hitting effort. Furthermore, VSU dialed up eight service aces against UWG's four.
With the win, the Blazers lifted their season to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in GSC play. Meanwhile, the Wolves fell to 1-8, 0-1 GSC. With their perfect 2-0 start in conference play, the Blazers currently stand alone atop the league standings
