SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Valdosta State men's tennis team put up a fight, but fell short to the No. 1 ranked team in the country, as the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks worked their way to a 6-3 win over the Blazers in non-conference action on Friday in Savannah, Ga.
The win lifted the top-ranked Sharks to 6-3 overall on the season, while No. 5 Valdosta State fell to 4-3 on the year.

Leo Blay and
Xavier Pineda fell 8-5 in doubles action to put VSU behind 1-0. Valdosta State fired back at No. 3, however, as
Fernando Rivas joined
Jordi Mas for an 8-4 win over Filip Soban and Juan Erro, before Filip Dolzel and Jakub Hadrava added on with an 8-6 win at No. 1.
In singles play, Blay ripped off a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Dolezel, who entered the day ranked No. 13 in individual singles play on the season. Blay's win, along with a 6-3, 6-3 win for Rivas over Soban at No. 4, was all the Blazers could muster, however.
Hawai'i Pacific's Otto delivered a 6-1, 7-5 win over Pineda at No. 2, Hadrava toppled Mas, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3, Erro took down Steward 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5, and Lyttle slammed the door with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Peleg at No. 6.
