Next Up for Lady Blazer Basketball: Alabama-Huntsville

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State women's basketball team is set to solidify their recently announced No. 6 NCAA South Regional ranking in a Gulf South Conference showdown against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m .EST in Huntsville, Ala. - With the first release of the 2016-17 NCAA South Region rankings, Valdosta State (16-8, 13-5 GSC) falls in at No. 6. The Lady Blazers are one of just two GSC teams to crack the top six and one of just four GSC teams to crack the top 10.

- Among players who have competed in 20-plus games this season in the Gulf South Conference, Madi Mitchell leads the league in field goal percentage. She has hit over half of the shots she has taken this season (144-of-282) for a 51.1 shooting percentage. Mitchell ranks fourth in the league in scoring with an average of 16.4 points per game, and her average of 8.0 rebounds per contest places her ninth among conference players.  

- The Lady Blazers hold an all-time record of 35-14 against Alabama-Huntsville (5-18, 4-14 GSC). The two teams last met in Valdosta, Ga. on January 2nd, with Valdosta State taking a 76-66 win.

- A red hot Valdosta State team enters tonight's matchup looking for their seventh straight victory. Heading into the final four games of the regular season schedule, the Lady Blazers are currently in second place in the Gulf South Conference standings. UWF is in first with a narrow one-game lead.

- Kenya Samone' Dixon currently leads the Gulf South Conference in three point shooting percentage with  63-of-150 from long range and a percentage of 42.0 percent. Furthermore, the junior ranks 20th in the country in the same category.
