VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State soccer team went toe-to-toe with the Lions of North Alabama on Friday night at the VSU Soccer Complex, but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in Gulf South Conference action in Valdosta, Ga.
North Alabama, who entered the match as a team receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches' NCAA Division II poll, struck first in the 12th minute when Michelle Hunter fired a shot off the bottom of the crossbar. The attempt, assisted by Tay Cavett, deflected into the goal and gave UNA an early 1-0 lead.
The Lions maintained the advantage for a little over ten minutes, until
Riley Tennant threaded a pass through to

Valdosta State outshot the Lions 24-14 in the contest. Tennant led the way with a team-high six shots, four of which were on goal. Both
Alyssa Curtis and Thornton turned in impressive performances in goal with nine and 12 saves, respectively.
The tie moved Valdosta State to 9-3-2 overall, 7-2-2 against conference opponents. North Alabama settled for their first draw of the year to move to 10-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in conference play.
