VALDOSTA, Ga. – Eight teams are set to square off in Montgomery, Ala. this weekend at the Gulf South Conference men's tennis tournament, with Valdosta State ranked No. 8 nationally and set to compete as the tournament's No. 2 seeded team.
The Blazers will square off against No. 7 Delta State on Thursday, April 14
th to open up competition, and will enter the matchup with a 12-6 overall record and wins in each of their last five matchups against league opponents.
VSU's last conference loss came on March 25
th against the tournament's top-seeded West Florida Argonauts, who narrowly clipped the Blazers 5-4. The Argonauts, currently ranked No. 4 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II rankings, will open up against No. 8 seeded Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday sporting a 16-5 overall record and a perfect 9-0 stretch in GSC play this season.
Valdosta State will aim to make a return appearance in the GSC Championship match this season with the help of
Xavier Pineda, who led the team during the regular season with an 11-2 singles record and a 15-3 record in doubles action.
