VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 8 ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team blasted the Chargers in a convincing 8-1 Gulf South Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts in Valdosta, Ga.
Niklas Herbring and
Gereon Heitmann sparked the day with an 8-3 doubles win over Murilo Basso and Elliot Hopson at No. 1, and
Xavier Pineda teamed up with
Leo Blay at No. 2 for an 8-0 rout over Noah Pring and Arthur Menezes at No. 2. Valdosta State took a 3-0 lead upon conclusion of doubles play with an 8-3 victory for
Jordi Mas and
Andrew Harvin, who defeated Rodrigo Palomino and Harrison Stone at No. 3.
In singles action, it was all Blazers, beginning with a 6-1, 6-2 win for Blay over Basso at No. 1, and followed by Heitmann's 6-2, 6-1 win over Hopson at No. 2.
Mas held momentum for VSU at No. 3, defeating Menezes 6-1, 6-2, and Herbring blew by Brodie Holmes at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. At No. 5, Pineda took down Palomino 6-1, 6-2, before Pring delivered UAH's only win of the day, a 6-4, 7-6 win over Harvin at No. 6.
With the win, VSU improved to 7-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in GSC play, while the Chargers dropped to 2-12 overall and 1-5 against GSC opponents.
The Blazers return to action on Friday, with another GSC matchup against West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.
