Volleyball Drops 3-0 Contest to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Valdosta State volleyball team was held in check on Friday night in Cleveland, Tenn., as the Flames of Lee completed a 3-0 sweep of the Blazers in Gulf South Conference action.

The Flames used a powerful offensive performance to claim the victory and teamed up to hit .292 in the contest. Three different players exceeded the .400 mark on the attack, and Carly Callahan bolstered the effort with ten kills and just one error for a .474 performance.

Valdosta State racked up 61 digs, including 17 from Sydney Chick, and the team added nine total blocks on the defensive side of the ball, but VSU failed to formulate a successful attack on offense.

Despite the loss, Carly Smart came within four kills of a triple-double, as she racked up six kills, 16 assists, and ten digs. The resulting double-double was her fourth of the season.

With the loss, Valdosta State fell to 12-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Flames boosted their record to 11-12 and improved their conference record within one game of .500 at 7-8.

VSU's next matchup will take place on Saturday against the Shorter Hawks in Rome, Ga. at noon.
