VALDOSTA, Ga. - Courtney Albritton collected two hits to lead Valdosta State to a 8-0 victory over Tuskegee in the first day of play at the NCAA South Region 1 Tournament Friday evening at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.
Albritton's second hit was the 315th of her career, establishing a new Gulf South Conference career hits mark.
Valdosta State (47-7) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as
Chelsea Canara walked with two outs and scored when
Kelly Gordon followed with a double to left-center while
Jennifer Phillips tripled and scored on a Canara sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 2-0 Blazers.
The Blazers doubled their advantage in the fifth inning when
Halie Imler reached on an error to open the frame and scored on a
Jaime Phillips triple. Two batters later, Phillips raced home on a
Kiley Rusen sacrifice fly that made the score 4-0.
Jennifer Phillips reached on an error to open the sixth and Canara singled before
Heather Robinson hit a pinch-hit opposite field home run to make it 7-0.

Fran Johnson and Rusen all proceeded to walk to load the bases for Albritton, who singled to left for the record-breaking and game concluding hit.
Caitlyn Calhoun allowed just one hit, a bunt single in the fourth inning, and struck out eight batters in a her 32nd complete game of the year to improve to 28-5 for Valdosta State.
The Blazers advance to Saturday's winner's bracket game against Shorter, which defeated Alabama-Huntsville 3-1 in 11 innings in Friday's first game, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. UAH and Tuskegee will play in an elimination game at 4:00 p.m.
