VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State closes out the Gulf South Conference portion of its 2015 regular season schedule as the Blazers host Mississippi College at Billy Grant Field.

Valdosta State enters the weekend with a 25-16 record, including a 16-11 mark in GSC play, which places the Blazers sixth in the league standings. Meanwhile, the Choctaws, who are in their first year of transitioning to the NCAA Division II ranks, are 12-31 on the season and 4-25 in GSC play.

Valdosta State is fighting to earn a spot in the 2015 Gulf South Conference Tournament, of which six teams will advance. VSU is first in the conference with 103 doubles and second in home runs with 44. Meanwhile, Mississippi College bats .291 as a team and has scored 241 runs.

From a pitching standpoint, the Blazers are seventh in the GSC in team ERA at 4.84. VSU has surrendered 223 runs on the season and holds foes to a .264 batting average. MC sports a team earned run average of 6.82 as it has allowed 322 runs whereas Choctaw opponents bat .340.

Due to rain projected in the Valdosta area on Saturday and Sunday, the schedule for the series has been altered as the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday followed by a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
