Next Up for Blazer Softball: Alabama-Huntsville

VALDOSTA, Ga. In this, the 2015 softball season, the team that finishes atop the Gulf South Conference will earn the right to host the GSC Tournament. This new change has added extra weight to regular season conference matchups this year, and no regular season showdown, perhaps, will be more important to the Valdosta State Blazers than this weekend's series against the rival Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville.

The series, a rare Friday/Saturday three-game set, will feature a Blazer squad that is currently in the midst of a 26 game winning streak, the team's longest since they strung together 36 straight during the 2012 National Championship season.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Thomas Macera, the Blazers hold a record of 36-2 on the season and 19-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The team's success on the year has placed them 4.5 games in front of second place North Alabama, a team VSU swept in Valdosta back in early March.

Valdosta State's opponent, the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, find themselves in third place heading into the weekend after being swept by North Alabama last weekend in Florence, Ala. The NFCA's No. 13 team is currently running neck-and-neck with the Lions at second place in the GSC standings with a record 25-8 on the season, 14-5 in league competition.

The opening doubleheader of the highly anticipated series is slated for a 1:00 p.m. EST start in Huntsville, Ala., with the finale to follow on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EST.

The weekend action can be followed in its entirety at www.vstateblazers.com. Live stats will be provided, along with a live audio broadcast both online and in Valdosta on The Jock 1150 AM / 96.1 FM.
