Men's Tennis falls 5-0 to No. 1 Hawaii Pacific

PENSACOLA, Fla. The Valdosta State men's tennis team saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of No. 1 ranked Hawaii Pacific in a 5-0 loss on neutral turf in Pensacola, Fla. on Thursday.
 
The Sharks jumped in front early in the match to take a 3-0 lead after doubles play, which began with an 8-4 loss for Edward Nguyen and Niklas Herbring at No. 1 to Thibaud Berland and Yann Renault. The match at No. 2 also ended in favor of Hawaii Pacific, as Gereon Heitmann and Ramon Weil suffered a narrow 8-6 defeat to Maik Burlage and Marko Lenz.
 
Doubles play came to its conclusion with another point for the Sharks, as Leo Blay and Francisco Yim Kim teamed up at No. 3, but fell 8-4 to Jaume Martinez-Vich and Clemens Graute.
 
Hawaii Pacific quickly claimed the final two points they needed to close out the match when Lenz defeated Leo Blay 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1, before Berland outlasted Yim Kim 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
 
Herbring was on track to claim a point for VSU at No. 3 with a 7-6 (8), 4-1 lead over Martinez-Vich, but the set was cut short after the Sharks picked up the fifth point of the day.
 
With the loss, the No. 10 Blazers fell to 10-4 overall, while No. 1 Hawaii Pacific improved their record to a perfect 15-0.
 
The Blazers are scheduled to get right back to it tomorrow morning with a 9:00 a.m. EST match against Concordia.
