ROME, Ga. - The Valdosta State Blazer tennis team took care of business in Rome, Ga. to claim a dominant 5-0 victory over the Hawks of Shorter in Gulf South Conference men's tennis action on Friday.
The triumph improved VSU to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Shorter fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in GSC play on the season.
Gereon Heitmann, and
Ramon Weil kicked off the day at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win over Alexis Catillon and Louis Tourtois. At No. 2,
Edward Nguyen and
Joachim Schemm followed suit with an 8-2 victory over Arthur Amat and Arthur Tourlousse, and
Leo Blay teamed up with
Francisco Yim Kim at No. 3 to defeat Talha Surmawala and Robert Watson 8-1 to put the Blazers in front 3-0 heading into singles action.
Valdosta State needed just two victories in singles play to secure the victory, and Heitmann and Nguyen answered the call with 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2 wins over Surmawala and Amat at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
The Blazers continue conference play on Saturday in Huntsville, Ala. with a GSC matchup against the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville.
