CARROLLTON, Ga. - The 2015 season opener for the Valdosta State tennis team proved to be a favorable one, as the Blazers shutout the Lee Flames 9-0 on Sunday in Gulf South Conference men's tennis play.
Gereon Heitmann and Roman Weil teamed up at No. 1 doubles to start the day off on the right foot with an 8-0 win over Daniel Hardesty and Rhys Milne.
Francisco Yim Kim and
Niklas Herbring proceeded to score an 8-2 win over Westley Lemke and Mike Herelle, and
Leo Blay and
Joachim Schemm joined to push the Blazers out in front 3-0 at the end of doubles play thanks to an 8-0 win over Kip Kahler and Garrett Byrd.
In singles action, freshman Blay crushed Hardesty 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while Yim Kim blew by Milne with a 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Niklas Herbring dropped Lemke 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Heitmann rolled at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

Joachim Schemm added to the onslaught with 6-0, 6-0 wins over Herelle and Byrd at No. 5 and No. 6
The Blazers get right back at it next weekend with a match in Boca Raton, Fla. against Lynn. The match is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start, and results will be available shortly after the conclusion of the match at www.vstateblazers.com.
