VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team looks to snap a three-game losing streak as the Blazers welcome West Florida to Billy Grant Field for a three-game Gulf South Conference series.

The Blazers opened the year with six straight wins, but have dropped each of their last three contests, including two out of three games at Shorter in league action last weekend. Valdosta State is off to a fast start offensively on the season as it is averaging 12.4 hits and 11.3 runs per game. As a squad, VSU bats .365, with seven of its nine starters battting better than .300.

The Blazer pitchers also got off to a fast start, but have struggled in the last four games, during which they have allowed 30 runs. On the season, Valdosta State has a 4.04 earned run average. Mitchell Cody leads the Blazer hurlers with a 1.83 earned run average as he has won two of his three starts. Kellan Bailey has a 2.31 ERA while Kyle Andre sports a 5.56 ERA, with all seven runs he has allowed on the year coming last week.

West Florida is 7-2 on the season, including a 2-1 mark in GSC play. The Argos feature one of the better pitching staffs in the GSC as they sport a 2.52 team earned run average. Brandon Nagem has not surrendered a run in 19.2 innings while winning all three of his starts while Alex Stevens is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in a pair of starts.

UWF also bats .325 as a team and is led by Nic Strasser, who is hitting .536 on the year. West Florida averages 10.1 hits and 6.2 runs a game while allowing just 3.0 runs an outing and holding opponents to a .206 batting average.

The series begins with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday followed by a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
