Women's Basketball Announces 2015-16 Schedule

VALDOSTA, Ga. - For the Lady Blazer basketball program, all eyes are set on November 14th and 15th of 2015. The dates mark the opening weekend for Valdosta State with games both at home and on the road to kick off the start of a brand new season, in which Valdosta State will begin their 41st year of Lady Blazer basketball and will have the opportunity to improve upon last year's first round GSC playoff appearance.

With the continuous expansion of the Gulf South Conference, the Lady Blazers have just two weeks of non-conference of action before opening up league competition. Rivals throughout the Gulf South Conference populate a hefty portion of the 2015-16 schedule, with conference play set to kick off against the Lions of North Alabama on December 3rd, less than one month into the season.

"The opening weekend challenge of the SIAC and the Sunshine State Classic, which include outstanding teams like Nova Southeastern and Albany State, is going to prepare us for 22 battles that we are going to have to face against the GSC night in and night out throughout our season," stated Head Coach Kiley Hill, who enters his 16th season at the helm. "With the new eligibility of Lee, who will certainly be competing for a conference championship, and with Union now proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with, we will certainly have our hands full. We look forward to the challenge of competing against the entire conference at a very high level."

Five non-conference games open up the campaign and lead into six GSC contests before the team takes a short hiatus for a Christmas break. The second half of the schedule kicks off on January 2nd with a trip to Memphis, Tenn. to face the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers for the first of 16 more conference games to be played throughout the remainder of the regular season. The only remaining non-conference game of the season will be VSU's second matchup against Albany State at home on February 24th, which will make way for the final game of the regular season against West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.

Postseason play begins with the GSC Tournament quarterfinal round on March 1st, which will be hosted by the highest seed in each quarterfinal round matchup. The semifinal and championship rounds of the GSC Tournament are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Ala. beginning on March 5th.

Games of note for the upcoming season include VSU's annual Pink Zone night on Saturday, January 30th, when the Lady Blazers host the Lee Flames. In addition, Hall of Fame night will take place on Saturday, February 13th, when the Lady Blazers and Blazers host Christian Brothers. That same night, Valdosta State Athletics will also recognize the 2015-16 Blazer and Lady Blazer seniors.

Mark your calendars now for what is sure to be another exciting, action-packed season of Lady Blazer basketball!
