Next Up for Blazer Soccer: West Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Both the Valdosta State Blazers and the West Georgia Wolves faced the Union Bulldogs in their last matchup. Both matches ended in stark contrast, however, as the Blazers fell 1-2 to Union in the final minutes on October 17th, while the Wolves pulled out a 2-1 win in the closing minutes on October 15th.

Now turning their attention away from Union and toward each other on Tuesday, the Blazers (3-8-2, 2-5-1 GSC) will try and snap the momentum of the Wolves (6-6-1, 4-3-1 GSC) in Carrollton, Ga. with a much needed victory. Hope remains for a trip to the 2015 GSC Tournament for Valdosta State, although the Blazers have virtually no room for error with four matches remaining on the regular season schedule and 12 points up for grabs. A win on Tuesday night would halt the progress of West Georgia, who currently stands tied with Union for sixth place among teams in the GSC eligible for one of six available spots in conference postseason play. If the season were to end today, UWG would edge out the Lady Bulldogs due to their aforementioned head-to-head victory last Thursday.

As for the Blazers, Head Coach Rebecca Nolin's squad currently holds seven points on the season with the potential to finish with 19. To reach that mark, the Blazers will need to find a way to overcome the near misses that have plagued the team in 2015. Of VSU's eight losses, six have come by two or fewer goals, and five have come by a deficit of just one score.

Expect the Blazers to lean heavily on their defense, which has held opponents to two or fewer goals 11 times over the course of the season. VSU will also aim to complement that defense with an offensive attack that has struggled to find rhythm in 2015, scoring just 11 goals in 13 contests.

The critical GSC showdown is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start, and can be followed via live stats and live video right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
