VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State soccer aims to right the ship this Friday at 6:00 p.m., when they return to friendly confines of the VSU Soccer Complex for another big Gulf South Conference matchup against the rival Lions of North Alabama.
The Blazers enter the weekend at 2-6-0 on the year and 1-3 in league play and will be looking to bounce back after a pair of losses to Shorter and Lee last weekend. The task will be a tall one on Friday night against a nationally ranked North Alabama squad that currently sits at 7-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in GSC play.
UNA's success this season can be highly attributed to forward Chloe Richards, who has scored in all but one contest for the Lions this season. The Cornwall, England native has been an absolute force for the Lions' offense, scoring four or more goals in a single match four different times in her career. In UNA's most recent conference victory, Richards lifted North Alabama to a 5-0 win over Shorter, accounting for all five goals in the match. The performance matched a school record and put the senior on a short list of just 12 GSC players to accomplish the feat.
The matchup between the Blazer defense and a potent UNA offense should make for an intriguing match tomorrow night, especially considering
McCall Gardner's outstanding effort at the goalkeeper position thus far in 2015. The senior currently holds a .762 save percentage to place her fifth among keepers in the league, and she ranks second in the GSC with 6.00 saves per contest.
