VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team added to their perfect home record with a dominant 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-18) win over the West Georgia Wolves in Gulf South Conference action at The Complex on Tuesday night.
VSU remained in complete control throughout and racked up 39 kills in 88 collective attacks. The Blazers minimized their mistakes on the night and committed just 12 errors en route to a .307 hitting percentage. In contrast, West Georgia swung for 26 errors and were held to an .062 percentage.
The convincing victory for Valdosta State was fueled by an offensive onslaught that included .400-plus hitting efforts by four different Blazers.
Kelsey Hedman connected for seven kills in 15 attempts, while
Destiny Berry and
Lea Jaklen contributed with .417 and .429 efforts, respectively.
Jessica Codato led the charge for the Blazers with a .571 percentage after blasting four kills in seven attempts to go along with 33 assists, two service aces, five digs and two block assists.
The win moved the Blazers to a 5-0 record at home on the season and improved Head Coach
Mike Swan's club to a season record of 8-3. In conference play, VSU now stands at 5-3. The Wolves saw their record fall to 4-9 overall, 2-7 in GSC play.
Valdosta State continues their pursuit of Gulf South Conference supremacy with two more road matches on this weekend. The Blazers will face Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by an afternoon match on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Livingston, Ala. against the West Alabama Tigers.
