VSU enters the contest with a 4-2 record, including a 2-2 mark in GSC play, while Shorter is 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in league action.
Valdosta State has caught fire of late as the Blazers have out-scored opponents 102 to 6 the last two weeks while out-gaining foes by an average of 618.5 total yards to 200.0 in those games. On the year, the Blazers featue a balanced offense as they run for 238.5 yards per game while passing for 247.7.
Jake Medlock has completed 85 of his 125 passes for 1,107 yards and has run for 378 yards on the year.
Austin Scott leads the team with 422 rushing yards while
Chris Anderson leads the receivers with 29 receptions for 381 yards.
The Blazer Black Swarm defense, which surrenders 124.5 rushing yards and 212.8 passing yards a game, has caused havoc for opposing offenses as it has recorded 39 tackles for loss on the year.
Kenny Murphy has recorded a team-high 45 tackles while
Justin Williams has 42 tackles, including 6.5 for loss. The VSU defense has tallied 12 turnovers on the season, including nine fumble recoveries and three interceptions, while also registering 10 sacks.
With its option offense, Shorter relies heavily on the run as it rushes for 228.5 yards per game while passing for only 75.3 per outing. Meanwhile, the Hawks, who average 21.8 points a game, allow 168.3 rushing yards, 237.5 passing yards and 29.2 points a game.
Quarterback Eric Dodson leads the SU offense as he has passed for 452 yards on the season while rushing for 360. Running back Kirk Wilson has run for 352 while fullback B.J. McCoy has added 335. Defensively, safety Jordan Shaw has paced the Hawks with 49 tackles and has recorded eight interceptions on the season. Meanwhile, linebacker Jevaris Jones has 39 tackles, including a pair of sacks.
