BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Week 8 Gulf South Conference Football Weekly Awards presented by Athletic Solutions for the 2026 season Valdosta State defensive back Curtis Janvier earned the Defensive Player of the Week Honor.

Janvier helped the Blazers to a 41-31 win over Shorter. The junior finished with three tackles, a pass breakup and two interceptions, returning them for a total of 50 yards. The first interception ended Shorter's opening drive of the second half, with the Hawks leading 24-21. He returned it 30 yards, setting up VSU's go-ahead touchdown for a 28-24 lead. The second came late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
