FOOTBALL GAME NOTES - WEST GEORGIA

FOLLOWING BYE WEEK, BLAZERS BATTLE FOURTH STRAIGHT RANKED FOE
Valdosta State continues its string of games against ranked opponents as the Blazers return from their bye week to host No. 24 West Georgia at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. The game marks the fourth straight week in which VSU has played a ranked opponent and gives Valdosta State a chance to get back to .500 against ranked foes on the year.
 
Overall, Valdosta State has played the second-toughest schedule in the nation, based upon opponents' winning percentage, through the first five weeks of the 2014 season. VSU's first four opponents have gone 11-1 on the season, not counting games played against the Blazers. This weekend's game against West Georgia will officially move Valdosta State's schedule into first place on the NCAA ranking list and will mark the fifth time this year VSU has played a game against an opponent without a loss on its record.
 
Valdosta State enters the weekend with a 2-2 record. The Blazers featue a balanced offense as they run for 184.0 yards per game while passing for 236.0. Jake Medlock has completed 56 of his 87 passes for 628 yards and has run for 198 yards on the year. Austin Scott has rushed for 244 yards while Cedric O'Neal has added 245 yards and four touchdowns. Chris Anderson leads the receivers with 23 receptions for 285 yards.
 
The Blazer Black Swarm defense has caused havoc for opposing offenses as it has recorded 27.0 tackles for loss on the year. Justin Williams and Sharmaine Washington have each recorded a team-high 35 tackles, with Williams tallying a team-best 6.0 tackles for loss. VSU has tallied 12 turnovers on the season, including nine fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
 
Off to its best start in 15 years, West Georgia is 5-0 on the season, including a win over West Alabama last week. The Wolves run for 258.2 yards per game and throw for 148.0 while averaging 36.2 yards per game. Meanwhile, defensively UWG allows just 101.4 rushing yards, 131.8 passing yards and 9.0 points per game and has tallied 16 sacks on the year.
 
Seth Hinsley and Brandon Lucas each average more than 70 rushing yards per game for the Wolves while Dallas Dickey rushes for 54 yards and passes for 122.8 yards per contest. Alex Armah has caused havoc in opponents' back fields this year as he counts 7.0 tackles for loss among his 23 tackles on the year. Tyrell Adams and Laronji Vason each have a team-high 30 tackles, with Adams also breaking up a team-best three tackles.
