Michael Griffin is a graduate student in the Higher Education Leadership program at Valdosta State University. He works as a Graduate Assistant for the men's basketball program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, with a minor in Coaching from the University of West Georgia, where he graduated cum laude.
As a former Division I and Division II student-athlete, Michael offers a unique perspective on coaching. He gained valuable insights from his time as both a player and mentor. During his college career, he helped West Georgia win the 2023–24 Gulf South Conference Championship and served as team captain during the program's first NCAA Division I season. As a graduate assistant, he supports player development, plans practices, assists with recruiting, manages game-day operations, coordinates team travel, monitors academics, and handles social media. He works closely with the coaching staff to improve the student-athlete experience.
Alongside his duties at Valdosta State, Michael has built coaching and player development skills as a volunteer assistant coach at West Georgia. He also interned at an NBA Pre-Draft Combine Training with One Motive Sports Agency and worked as a private basketball trainer for high school athletes. His roles in operations and event management within collegiate athletics have given him a solid grasp of the daily tasks necessary for a successful basketball program.
Michael is dedicated to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. He aims to create championship-caliber programs by promoting leadership, accountability, and a culture of excellence.
