LaVonne "LG" Gauthney enters his first season on the Valdosta State football coaching staff as a graduate assistant offensive line coach / equipment manager.

Prior to Valdosta State, Gauthney was a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Wiregrass Ranch HS in Wesley Chapel, Fla., where they went 9-3 (school record) and were named District 6 4S Champions. LG coached two players to All-Conference honors while their quarterback broke the Pasco County and school passing record with 4,007 yards in the air as he was named Pasco County Player of the Year. Gauthney's offensive line allowed four sacks in 12 games. In 2022, Gauthney was a defensive line / strength and conditioning coach at Hilliard Davidson HS in Ohio. During that season, LG coached Turner Schmidt to All-State at defensive end. Gauthney spent three years at Reynoldsburg HS in Ohio where he was an offensive line coach. He coached center Jalen Bowens to All-State in 2019. 

During his playing days, LG was a vital part of the VSU football team, as he named to the Remington watch list in 2017 before being named to the All-GSC 1st team in 2018 on top of being named to First Team All-Region and AP 2nd Team All-American for DII at offensive line. In that 2018 season, LG helped lead the Blazers to their fourth National Championship.

LaVonne resides in Valdosta with his four dogs Kobe, Shaq, King and Jackson.
