Blake Potash

Blake Potash begins his first season as assistant linebackers coach.  Prior to Valdosta State, Potash spent two seasons at defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Black Hills State (S.D.).  There, the team played two games in 2020 and 11 in 2021.  

Prior to BHSU, Potash was the Senior Defensive Analyst and Director of Analytics at Abilene Christian University from 2018-19. There, the ACU defense finished the 2019 season ranked top-20 in the FCS in three major defensive categories: fumbles recovered (fourth), sacks (10th) and tackles for loss (11th).

In 2018, they finished ranked top-20 in the FCS in four major defensive categories: fourth down percentage (sixth), sacks (seventh), rush defense (14th) and third down percentage (14th). The ACU defense also led the Southland Conference in red zone touchdown percentage.  Potash coached with current VSU head coach Tremaine Jackson at ACU in 2018.

Potash was the Linebackers Assistant at ACU from 2016-17, before being promoted and helped improve the defense over that time in scoring defense (8.7 ppg), rush defense (11 ypg) and pass defense (82 ypg).

Prior to ACU, Potash worked as a Varsity Assistant and JV Defensive Coordinator at Buffalo Grove High School in Buffalo Grove, Ill.

Potash graduated from Roosevelt University (Ill.) in 2016 with a B.S. in accounting.
