ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - This weekend the Valdosta State volleyball team will be playing in four matches at the Flagler Invitational, Sept. 4-5, at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Blazers are entering the weekend 1-2 and will open tournament play Friday at 10 a.m. against Lees-McRae before facing Maryville (Mo.) at 5:30 p.m. VSU will return to the court on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to play against their host, Flagler, before ending the tournament against Saint Leo at 8 p.m.
Last weekend at the Coker Cobra Classic, the Blazers fell to Francis Marion and USC Aiken before earning a 3-2 victory against Chowen.
Sophomore middle blocker, Maddie Kilmer, leads the Blazers offensively through three matches with 31 kills and a .361 hitting percentage. Camryn Childers has recorded 27 kills, while Eva LaRochelle sits at 26 kills. Setter Avery Mullins leads VSU with 56 assists and Eimy Negron Domenech tallies 48 digs.Â
As a team, VSU has totaled 152 kills and 131 assists while averaging 11.7 kills and 10.1 assists per set. The Blazers have also recorded 185 digs and 17 blocks through their first three matches.
This tournament provides the Blazers an opportunity to get back on their feet and start gaining momentum in the early season.
