CLINTON, Miss. — The Valdosta State Blazers are riding a two-game win streak as they go on the road this weekend to face Mississippi Christian.
The Blazers sit tied for third in the GSC standings and are coming off a pair of wins against Trevecca Nazarene and AUM.
Eva LaRochelle paces the VSU attack, posting 133 kills, six service aces, 14 blocks and 119 digs. Maddie Kilmer has 107 kills on the year with seven service aces, 33 blocks and 39 digs.
On the backline, Eimy Negron Domenech has been stellar at the libero spot. Her 315 digs this season leads the GSC, while she has added 81 assists and 17 service aces. Setter Avery Mullins added 161 digs while also posting 370 assists, which is second in the GSC.
As a team, the Blazers have averaged 12.5 kills per set, putting them fourth in the GSC. Valdosta State leads the conference in digs, averaging 19.6 digs a set with 1,082 digs this season.
Scouting the Choctaws
The Choctaws come into the match at 4-9 and 1-1 in GSC play. Currently, Mississippi Christian sits at seventh in the conference standings.
In their last contest, the Choctaws swept Christian Brothers in a competitive match up with the final two sets decided by five points or less.
Mississippi Christian's attack is led by seniors Mary Grace Foster and Meg Paparella. Foster has 107 kills and 23 blocks on the season, while Paparella has 80 kills, 18 service aces and 15 blocks.
Defensively, Samarin Kipple has 213 digs on the season and Cydney Mitchell has 26 blocks on the season.
The Choctaws average 10.8 kills per set, 1.9 blocks per set and 15 digs per set as a team.
The Blazers have a 16-2 record against Mississippi Christian, in their last meeting on November 8, 2025, VSU swept the Choctaws.
The match will be Friday, September 25 at 7:00pm eastern standard time.
Scouting the Tigers
West Alabama is sitting on a 14-1 and 2-0 GSC record heading into this weekend's match against the Blazers.
The Tigers last game was against Union, where they dominated Union University in a 3-0 sweep. West Alabama are currently in second place in the GSC standings.
One of the fiercest attacks in the GSC, The Tigers lead the conference in hitting percentage (.292), Kills (12.9 per set), and service aces with (123).
Leading the charge is the duo of Klára Bobánová and Katerina Korre. Bobánová has 131 kills placing her third in the GSC, along with 13 service aces, 72 digs and 17 blocks. Korre has 119 kills, is second in the GSC in service aces with 24, along with 57 digs and 12 blocks.
Bailey Keef and Rachele Zanini both lead the team in digs with 177 and 134 respectively, and Jazlyn Snow is a force up front with 24 blocks on the season.
Zanini has been spectacular this season, posting 455 assists and averaging 9.48 assists per set. She also has 21 service aces.
The Blazers are 22-6 against the Tigers, with VSU winning their last meeting in a 3-0 sweep.
The game will be on Saturday, September 26th at 2:00pm.
