VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team takes home another win under their belt, sweeping Auburn Montgomery 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) at The Complex.
The Blazers now sit 8-7 in overall standings and 2-1 in GSC play following their successful match Tuesday evening. VSU began vigorous offensive efforts which allowed them to take control of the first two sets, before suffering a setback in the third set. That setback did not hold them down long as they were able to reclaim the lead and secure the match win.
In the first set Valdosta State started off strong, landing 18 kills and having a hitting percentage of .220. The Blazers slowly increased their lead and managed to take the first set.
In the second set, VSU maintained their momentum by getting ahead early and securing the set win. The team achieved 16 kills in the set and kept AUM down to a .029 hitting percentage.
The last set was when the Warhawks decided to fight back a little harder, taking the early lead. Valdosta State rallied together to reduce the gap before finally catching up and taking the lead towards the end of the set. The Blazers were able to bounce back and finish off the sweep with a 25-22 win.
Eva LaRochelle led the Blazers with 13 kills, Maddie Kilmer contributed nine and also recorded three blocks. Paola Aviles landed six kills while Kinsley Timmons and Maddie Goodwin each recorded five.
Avery Mullins directed the VSU offensive play with 31 assists and two service aces.. Eimy Negron Domenech had a standout defensive effort with 16 digs and Ava Keuntjes made 12 digs with three service aces. LaRochelle also collected 11 digs for the Blazers.
The Blazers will return to action on Friday, competing on the road, against Mississippi Christian at 7 p.m.
