VALDOSTA, Ga.- Lucas Edenfield, punter of Valdosta State, was announced by the Gulf South Conference for Special Teams Player of the Week. 

Edenfield helped the Blazers to start the 2026 season with a 38-10 win against Emory & Henry, putting in a solid performance that put Valdosta State in favorable field position.

He punted five times for a total of 224 yards, which amounted to an average of 44.8 yards per punt and included one punt of 51 yards. Two of his punts went over 50 yards and one landed inside the 20-yard line. He also had two fair catches in the season-opening win.

Edenfield's performance enabled the Blazers to maintain control of field position all night while Valdosta State's defense kept Emory & Henry to only 230 yards. In the second half the Blazers pulled further ahead, scoring 24 points without reply and thus securing a 28-point win. 

This award is the first weekly honor that Edenfield has received in his career and the first weekly conference honor for the Blazers in 2026. 

Thursday Valdosta State will be at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium to host Warner and will play at 7 PM.
