Hartsville, SC - The Valdosta State Volleyball team kicked off the 2026 season at the Coker Classic. While the first two matches did not go their way, they kept their heads up and finished the tournament strong with a win, beating the Hawks 3-2 (25-27, 25-18, 25-16, 27-29, 15-13).
 
From the very first point the Blazers were involved in a closely contested match, Chowan winning the first set 27-25.
 
VSU then reacted in the second set and won 25-18 to level the score at 1-1.
 
In the third set Valdosta State kept the advantage, managing a hitting percentage of .375 with 15 kills and only three errors. The Blazers then pulled further ahead to win the set 25-16 and led 2-1.
 
In the fourth set Chowan replied, but VSU would not allow the match to slip away. The Blazers fought through another tight set before Chowan won the frame by a narrow margin, 29-27, and the match went on to a deciding fifth set.
 
In the fifth set the Blazers secured the win by holding on to a 15-13 lead, ending the weekend with a winning result.
 
Maddie Kilmer was in charge of the Blazers' offensive attacks, registering 17 kills and achieving an impressive hitting percentage of .481. She also managed three service aces and five total blocks, bringing her total to a team-leading 23.5 points. Camryn Childers contributed 14 kills, and Asia Montagnani ended the match with 10 kills and three blocks.
 
Eva LaRochelle recorded nine kills, three assists, two service aces and a team-leading 13 digs, Avery Mullins directed the attack with 22 assists and 10 digs, and Eimy Negron Domenech provided 16 assists and 16 digs.
 
Valdosta State as a team achieved 68 kills, 55 assists, nine service aces and 65 digs. The Blazers also had the edge in both service aces and digs, finishing with four solo blocks and eight block assists.
 
This win means that the Blazers can conclude the Coker Cobra Classic on a strong note as they ready themselves for their next stop at the Flagler Invitational on September 4-5th.
