Valdosta, Ga - Valdosta State softball will close out its final Gulf South Conference road trip of the regular season this weekend as the Blazers travel to Pensacola, Florida to face No. 14 West Florida in a three-game series. The matchup begins with a doubleheader on Friday, April 24 at 2 p.m. ET, followed by the series finale on Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. ET.

The Blazers (21-22, 11-13 GSC) enter the weekend with momentum after securing a series win over Christian Brothers at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park. After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, Valdosta State responded with a strong showing on Sunday, combining timely hitting and dominant pitching to earn a 6-2 victory and take the series. The weekend showcased the Blazers' resilience and offensive firepower, traits they will need against one of the conference's top teams.

In the series opener against Christian Brothers, Valdosta State nearly completed a dramatic comeback after falling behind 9-0, scoring eight runs across the final two innings before ultimately coming up just short in a 9-8 loss. Chloe Eichelberger sparked the offense with a home run, while Rachel Lee went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The Blazers' persistence at the plate carried into game two, where they erupted for an 8-4 win behind a five-run third inning. Madison VanAllen and Cailyn Cooke led the charge with home runs, as Cooke finished with two long balls and four RBIs in the victory.

Valdosta State carried that momentum into Sunday's finale, where the Blazers controlled the game from the start. Alyssa Vallad delivered a complete-game performance in the circle, while Eichelberger provided the offensive highlight with a grand slam that broke the game open in the second inning. The Blazers capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the game and limited Christian Brothers offensively, showcasing a balanced effort on both sides of the field.

This weekend presents a significant challenge as the Blazers face a red-hot West Florida squad ranked No. 14 nationally. The Argonauts (35-9, 20-7 GSC) are coming off a dominant series sweep over Mississippi College and currently sit near the top of the conference standings. West Florida's offense has been explosive, highlighted by a recent 11-5 victory in which the Argonauts tallied 13 hits. Players like Abigail Pippen, Nicole Mergen, and Emma Brice have led the charge, combining for multiple extra-base hits and RBIs throughout the series.

In addition to their powerful lineup, West Florida brings strength in the circle. Haley Guffey has been a key contributor, recently throwing multiple complete games while limiting opponents' scoring opportunities. The Argonauts have also received strong performances from Hannah Harper, giving them a deep and reliable pitching staff to complement their offense.

For Valdosta State, the key to success will be continuing the balanced approach that fueled last weekend's series win. The top of the lineup, led by Saylor McNearney, has consistently set the tone, while Eichelberger, Cooke, and Lee have provided run production in key moments. In the circle, Vallad and the pitching staff will look to contain West Florida's high-powered offense and keep the Blazers competitive deep into each game.

With postseason positioning on the line, the weekend series offers an opportunity for Valdosta State to make a statement against one of the GSC's top teams. The Blazers will look to carry their recent momentum on the road as they face a tough test in Pensacola.
