PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 17 Valdosta State women's tennis team bounced back with a 7-0 win over Christian Brothers on Sunday morning in Pensacola, Fla., to complete the Gulf South Conference regular season. The Blazers improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in GSC play, while CBU fell to 0-12-1 and 0-8 in league play.
VSU returns home to close the 2026 regular season versus Lynn on Friday at 2 p.m. and then on Saturday versus Tampa at 11 a.m. with both matches at the VSU Tennis Complex.
The Blazers won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles and
Charleigh Fay and
Ivana Castillo Hurtado blanked Anastasija Cernova and Maria Braga to win the doubles point. Blazer top duo of
Lena Beckx and
Milica Prokic had their match halted when doubles was clinched.
VSU carried the early momentum over to singles as CBU had just five players so VSU earned a forfeit at No. 6 for a 2-0 lead. The Blazers dominated the other five matches with bagels at Nos. 3-5, while Prokic won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Beckx dropped the first set, 6-1, at the top spot but rallied for a 6-2 win the second set and won 10-5 in the super tiebreaker over Valerie Neumann after the match already had been clinched.
Following the two matches against Lynn and Tampa, the Blazers then will head to the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championships, scheduled for Apr. 23-26 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
