PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team battled back from 2-0 deficit for a gritty 4-3 win over Christian Brothers Sunday morning in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers snapped a six-match skid with the win, improving to 5-10 on the year and 3-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
CBU earned a win by forfeit in doubles at the No. 3 position, but Blazer duo of
Jerome Iaconi and
Yohann Meunier won 6-3 at No. 2 over Miguel Perez Habib and Ernesto Pico. Buccaneer top tandem of Benjamin Hanriot and Aleandre Randoux won 7-5 at No. 1 over
Pietro Casciola and
Wilson Igbinovia to claim the early lead.
In singles, the Bucs won by forfeit at No. 6 for a 2-0 lead and stretched the lead to 3-0 with a win from Ot Diaz Colell at No. 4 singles over Meunier, 6-1, 6-1. VSU kept its composure and started the uphill climb to get back into the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win by Casciola at No. 5 singles, while Igbinovia won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 over Juan Ycaza, and Iaconi won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1.
Emile Delporte won 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 at No. 3 for the 4-3 win.
The Blazers, who clinched a spot in the upcoming Gulf South Conference championship, return home to close the regular season on Friday at 2 p.m. versus Lynn at the VSU Tennis Complex. Following that match, VSU will travel to the GSC Championship, scheduled for Apr. 23-26, 2026, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
