MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team came up short in a 7-0 loss at No. 2 Barry on Saturday. With the loss, VSU fell to 4-5 on the year, while Barry improved to 16-0.
The Buccaneers won at the top two doubles positions to clinch the team point as Thomas Machado and Adam Lynch won 6-3 over Jereome Iaconi and
Yohann Meunier and No. 20 duo of Ricardo Trione and Simone Cavalleri won 6-3 at the top spot over VSU tandem of
Philipp Bosse and
Pietro Casciola. At No. 3 doubles, BU's Yan Kodjoed and Antonin Chapuis held a 5-4 lead over
Wilson Igbinovia and
Emile Delporte when the point was clinched.
Playing the whole match out, Barry used straight-set wins at Nos. 4, 2 and 3 to clinch the win. In a battle of top 75 players, Trione, ranked 25
th nationally, won 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 over Bosse who entered 53
rd nationally at the top spot.
The Blazers will look to get back on track as they host Auburn Montgomery in Valdosta on Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. in a key Gulf South Conference matchup.
