Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team battled back for a thrilling 4-3 win on Tuesday afternoon at Montevallo. The Blazers battled back from dropping the doubles point and trailed 3-1 in the match before rallying for the victory.
At No. 5 singles,
Yohann Meunier battled back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to win the second 6-4 and won 7-6 (7-1) in the third set tiebreaker to clinch the match with the win over Montevallo's Edgar Dufresne. VSU improved to 4-4 on the year and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while Montevallo fell to 4-3 and 1-2 in league play.
The Falcons won at the top two spots in doubles, each by the score of 6-4 and the No. 3 doubles was tied 4-4 when the point was clinched. At the top spot in singles,
Philipp Bosse won 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Samuel Maia for a 1-1 score. UM used wins at Nos. 2 and 3 for a 3-1 lead, before
Pietro Casciola started the comeback with a big 6-2, 6-4 win at No 6 over Luiz Gobbi, followed by a 6-4, 7-5 win from
Jerome Iaconi at No. 4 to level the match at 3-3 prior to Meunier's heroics.
The Blazers now turn their attention to the top-ranked team in the country, Barry, for a 10 a.m. match Saturday morning in Miami Shores, Fla.
