VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team came up short in a 4-0 loss to No. 42 Columbus State Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers fell to 2-4 on the year, while CSU improved to 5-0.
In doubles, the Cougars took the early lead as they won at the top spot with a 6-2 win from Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter over Blazer duo of
Philipp Bosse and
Pietro Casciola, but the Blazers used a 6-2 win from
Jan Thissen and
Jerome Iaconi at No. 3. At the No. 2 spot, CSU won 6-4 as Thomas Cardona and Samer Al Tori won 6-4 over
Emile Delporte and
Wilson Igbinovia for the early 1-0 lead.
VSU would rally in singles winning three of the six first sets, but the Cougars would respond as Hugo Didier won 6-2, 6-3 over Igbinovia for a 2-0 lead at No. 2, while Daniel Hammond won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 for a 3-0 lead and Sandrone clinched the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 over
Yohann Meunier. At No. 3
Jan Thissen won the first set 7-6 (7-3) and was about to split the first two sets with Samer Al Tori, while
Jerome Iaconi and Bosse also split their first two sets when the match was clinched.
