MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team posted a 6-1 win at Georgia College Friday afternoon to improve to 3-4 on the year, while GC fell to 4-5 on the year.
The Blazers made quick work of the Bobcats in doubles for the early lead as No. 3 duo of
Jan Thissen and
Jerome Iaconi won 6-1, while No. 2 tandem of
Emile Delporte and
Wilson Igbinovia won 6-2 to clinch the point. At No. 1 Philippe Bosse and
Pietro Casciola were down 4-3 to Chase Martin and Finn Oneill when the point was clinched.
Georgia College evened the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win by Chase Martin over Igbinovia at the top spot in the lineup for singles. Iaconi won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-3 for a 2-1 lead. Thissen got a straight-set victory at No. 2 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Jacob Andergassen for a 3-1 lead. The Blazers clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win from
Yohann Meunier at the No. 4 spot. Delporte won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Casciola won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 for the 6-1 win.
The Blazers return to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET at Montevallo.
