MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Valdosta State women's basketball team (15-12, 12-9 Gulf South Conference) earned an 81-56 road victory over Auburn Montgomery (3-25, 3-18 GSC) Tuesday evening in Montgomery. The Lady Blazers led tonight's contest from wire-to-wire.
The Lady Blazers built a 20-10 lead after the first quarter before extending the advantage to 41-23 at halftime. Valdosta State continued its efficient performance in the second half, scoring 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the decisive win while shooting 57.9% from the floor as a team. VSU held a +9 advantage in team rebounding and forced 15 AUM turnovers.
Sophomore Alina Martin came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a 2-for-2 effort from three-point range. Senior Aryana Hicks added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting along with seven assists, while sophomore Raeanne Eccleston matched Hicks with 14 points on an efficient 6-of-9 night from the floor. Eccleston's two steals were tied for the most by a Lady Blazer.
Junior Erin Whalen contributed eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Freshman Chardae Rumph finished with eight points, and freshman Rebecca Souverain added seven points and four rebounds. VSU's bench made a major impact, accounting for 44 points in the victory.
AUM was led by Andie Flatgard's 22-point performance, including six three-pointers.
The win pushed VSU to 12-9 in conference play. The Lady Blazers are set to play a road game on March 2nd in the GSC Championship Quarterfinals, but the opponent is not yet determined. Stay up to date with the 2026 GSC Championship by clicking here.
