MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team (14-12, 11-9 Gulf South Conference) closes the regular season this week with a two-game Alabama road trip. The first game is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Auburn Montgomery (3-23, 3-17 GSC) with the second game at Montevallo (5-20, 4-16 GSC) for a 6:30 p.m. ET matchup Friday evening.
The Lady Blazers clinched an appearance in the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship Quarterfinals with last Thursday's win over Christian Brothers, but their seeding depends largely on their performance this weekend. Valdosta State (11-9 GSC), West Florida (11-9 GSC), and West Alabama (11-10 GSC) will all see their positioning determined by this weekend's results as each team plays its final conference contests.
Junior Erin Whalen continues to pace VSU in several key categories, leading the team with 14.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game. Whalen ranks seventh in the GSC in scoring, third in rebounding, and second in steals. Senior Aryana Hicks, who was honored on Senior Day at the Complex this past weekend, paces the GSC with 5.0 assists per game and averages 10.9 points per contest. Hicks moved into ninth place in program history in assists following Thursday's game against Christian Brothers, reaching the milestone in under two seasons in the red and black.
Valdosta State has seen consistent contributions from sophomore Alina Martin (8.9 PPG) and Raeanne Eccleston (7.7 PPG, 4.4 RPG), while freshmen Rebecca Souverain and Chardae Rumph have each earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors over the last month and stepped into starting roles. Sophomore Ka'Miah Pryor and junior Alina Sapliak have provided steady minutes and versatility off the bench as the rotation has solidified.
Wednesday's matchup with Auburn Montgomery marks the second meeting between the teams this season, with VSU earning a win at the Complex earlier this year. The Lady Blazers hold a 19-1 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 2018. The Warhawks enter on a four-game losing streak and are led offensively by Samya Brooks (15.1 PPG) and Tamora Brown (13.8 PPG), with Brown also leading the team in steals at 2.0 per game. Andie Flatgard averages a team-best 3.1 assists per contest and is third in scoring at 10.7 points per game, while Nevaeh Small paces the team on the glass with 8.6 rebounds per game.
Valdosta State closes the regular season Friday night at Montevallo. The Lady Blazers won 66-51 in the first meeting between the two sides this season at the Complex and lead the all-time series 16-3. The Falcons are led by Emily Mouser, the lone player averaging double-figure scoring for UM at 11.6 points per game. Mouser also paces the team in assists (2.9 APG) and steals (1.2 SPG). Elyse Hughes adds 9.5 points per contest and leads Montevallo with 5.5 rebounds per game.
